Work Experience

AUBURN HILLS GOLF CLUB, Riner, Virginia                                                       2004-Present

I worked at Auburn Hills in the Club House and Cart Barn when I first started. I had experience from working at Stonehouse and was a perfect fit for the club. I was an abnormally hard worker, which did not go unnoticed and was brought up to me on a regular basis. I would greet golfers, have carts ready for beginning of day or wash and put away the carts at the end of the day, open, run, and close the pro shop. I then decided to work on the maintenance side to gain a better understanding of the golf course itself. I mowed greens, fairways, and other parts of the course, also I was involved in bunker projects and many other tasks in the maintenance department.

TRADITIONS AT STONEHOUSE GOLF CLUB, Toano, Virginia                           2003-2004

Stonehouse is the first golf course I worked at and much of the same from above, I was praised for my hard working attitude, as well as, my response and actions in difficult situations. I was in charge of greeting golfers, helping them with their bags while holding a conversation with the incoming golfers. Having the carts ready all day, cleaned and parked at night. We were very customer service oriented and task spanned from the wide array of questions and favors the golfers would ask as well as the course management. I was also sent to another course for a professional golf tournament and put in charge of all the golfers arriving at the Crown Royal open at Royal New Kent (Stonehouse's sister course) for the four days of the tournament. My tasks included being there before sun rise, having all the golfers check in with me to find out what they needed to do or where they needed to go before their tee time, have the carts ready and organized for the caddies as they arrived, and having golfers out of the clubhouse or off the driving range and on the first tee when they were supposed to be. I did a good job though and was thanked by all the staff for my visiting hard work and help. I also worked for the maintenance department for a short while to gain knowledge in the actual making and maintaining of the golf course. I learned to operate mowers and lay turf along with many other aspects concerning the upkeep of the golf course.

ATLANTIC WIRELESS, Williamsburg, Virginia                                                         2001-2002

I worked in this small business establishment that was privately owned, but sold mainly Nextel services and phones, as well as, many other services including SunCom, Alltel, etc. I was mainly involved with inside sales, helping customers that come into the store, also calling businesses to let them know about our services and how they could bring the businss closer together. We also did some outside sales going to business to discuss possible deals. We were involved in sales contests in the office and we were expected to reach certain goals. After a diminishing period we were faced with the challege of an outstanding sales month for the store and though it took a lot hard work we made it and it was a big win for everyone involved, both professionally and personally.

MERIT BRASS, Cleveland, Ohio                                                                              2000/2001

This was an internship that I did over two summers before my junior and senior year of high school. I learned about all the different aspects of the business including what goes on in the warehouse, machine shops, packing, shipping, receiving, and all the in office areas as well. I acted as an office assistant at times doing such tasks as photo copying, faxing, etc. I did a phone customer satisfaction survey in the marketing area for all of Merit’s customers, asking questions about Merit’s service and product. I did a surcharge project for the management on all of the future surcharges compared to past and trying to track where they might be heading for buying reasons. It was an overall inside look at a business and its different aspects and actually getting in and doing the jobs to get a feel for each one individually.

Activities

KAPPA SIGMA FRATERNITY, Nu-Sigma Chapter, Radford University, Radford, Virginia            2003-Present

As a member of Kappa Sigma I made my family at school. I pledged in the Spring of 2003 as a member of the Nu Sigma’s Alpha Alpha pledge class. And as there was a lot of speculation that we would be a very important pledge class, we were. We have been in the positions and had to make the decisions that have shaped the new face of our fraternity with the changing culture in American standards and standards upheld by Radford University. I have been a member of the sports committee and then the committee chair where I was in charge of getting rosters signed and attending intramural sports meetings. Having schedules and dates ready at each meeting for my committee report, having a fund raiser for my committee, and various other tasks that each chair does. I was elected to the Executive Committee position of Grand Master of Ceremonies where I was in charge of the most important aspect of the brotherhood, the rituals. From the meetings to each ritual as brothers or with the pledges. I also upheld the Grand Procurator position, which is equivalent with Vice President, as we faced some adversity and lost our President to unfortunate happenings. That position assists the President and runs the meetings in an orderly way. Now I am a member of the Standards Committee where each pledge class selects one member to convene on issues where members have acted or spoke inappropriately towards another or others. This is a respected position and is taken very seriously as each pledge class only gets one representation. All in all Kappa Sigma is my family here at school, I have lived with ten of my brothers for two years now in my house and spend the time that I am not in class or sleeping with them, going to eat, going to the gym, playing sports, having fun, and just hanging out. It truly has shaped me into the young man I have become as I have shaped it in my own way to the way it is and will hopefully continue to be.

INTRAMURAL SPORTS, Radford University                                                            2003-2006

For the fraternity I participated in many intramural sports. We play football, kickball, and soccer in the fall and basketball, volleyball, and softball in the spring. I compete and am a captain on many of the teams accept volleyball. We are very competitive and always finished towards the top of the standings. I won two kickball championships, a soccer championship, a basketball championship when I pledged, a basketball runner-up, a football runner-up, a soccer runner-up, and two athlete of the year awards for my fraternity. We have not been allowed to participate in softball the last two springs due to issues with the University. Currently this season we are undefeated in softball and the playoffs are coming soon.
